USB issue with webcam, device descriptor read/64, error -110

I'm trying to use a camera (Panasonic HM-TA2) that I recently got as a webcam.  It has both video and audio available by the USB.  When I plug it in, though, I get the following output from dmesg:

If I try leaving it plugged in at bootup, udev hangs for about 30 seconds, and I am unable to use my USB mouse for a couple minutes.  I tried searching around and it seems to be a common problem, but usually with external drives.  The thing that seems to work for most folks is unplugging the computer, but that's not really an option for me as this is on my laptop.  If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very grateful!
