Looking for music catalog software
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good program for tracking my collection of music. I have a very large collection and recently some of it was lost in a hard drive failure. What I am looking for is just something that can catalog what I have for future reference, also if it could look up artists discography that would be a sweet bonus.

If you use MPD, /var/lib/mpd/mpd.db contains the names of all songs in the collection. So if part of your hard drive gets wiped, you can use this file to find out what needs to be redownloaded (assuming mpd.db did not get wiped). The extent to which the user interface is integrated with the catalog depends on the MPD client. Or you can go with a conventional media player that makes this a high priority like Amarok or Rhythmbox.
