BACKGROUND
I just want to mention beforehand that i've installed and been using Arch for about two years now on multiple machines.
I purchased a HP G6-1C40CA: Bestbuy.ca Link
I've tried the follow variations
64bit "core" disc - written on a "CD" at the lowest speed with computer #1
64bit "net" disc - written on a "DVD" at 2x with computer #2
32bit "net" disc - written on a "DVD" at 2x with computer #2
All of them result in a failed installation.
(All downloaded via .torrent)
STORYLINE:
- boot to disc
- select "boot arch"
- it starts "doing its thing"
- starts mounting folders
- the monitor turns off (no backlight)
- the disc continues reading (based on the sound)
- eventually it stops reading the disc and my monitor remains off
ONCE FRUSTRATED
I found a ubuntu 9.10 disc (2009-10-29 release date), it works flawlessly.
The GUI installation works.
OBJECTIVE:
help me install arch? Any help appreciated.
Why can an ubuntu disc from 2009 work, and i can't get arch to even load.

You could've tried booting using the following parameters:
acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor
I have HP G62 and had the same issue you have e.x. blank screen when booting from live cd. Passing those params seems to work on my side.
Also, I remember when I used an older ISO image (don't sure what release) I don't have this problem but with the newer ones it's there.
