[SOLVED] Do I need a swap partition on this laptop?

Hi, I am wondering If I really need a swap partition for my laptop, as I understand it, swap is used as virtual memory when the pc runs out of RAM to work with. I just upgraded my laptop with 8GB of RAM so I am wondering if I can delete the swap partiton with no harm to my system?

Only thing would be affected I think its the hibernate funtionality, but I never use it, I either suspend (to RAM) or turn the laptop off.

What do you guys suggest?

System specs: Lenovo thinkpad t420s Intel i5 proc, 8GB of RAM and 128 GB ssd, Running Arch exclusively.

You should use swap if you see that amount of RAM you have is not enough for your tasks.
If amount of free RAM never goes below 25%, I am sure the swap is not needed.

Correct. No hibernate to disk if no swap. If you don't use it you might as well save some SSD...

You could always add a swapfile later on if you have issues. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Swap#Swap_file
