Forums Question

Is there a way to view all posts within the last 24 hours?

For example: In another Forum, I've seen a selection for: "View last 24 hours posts" - which is displayed in the same place that - View posts since last visit, View your posts, and View unanswered posts are listed (at the top right of the forum).

Just wondering if that was something I could set up, or if it was something that needed to be enabled in the bbs.

Thanks!

Re: Forums Question

That would be a function of the bbs software. No idea if phpbb supports it. If you can find a phpbb mod for it, we might be able to install it.

Re: Forums Question

In general with mods, many of them are interesting but time consuming to maintain when each upgrade of phpBB requires to re-install. The install is a manual work finding the related files and entering line by line. Apeiro with not have the time.

Re: Forums Question

So why not have two Admins? Besides Judd hardly ever comes here so anything he hardly deals with will be pain to maintain. If you have another admin that can take care of such maintainence that actually cares about the forum it would be nice .... and I don't mean one of the mods (no offence intended but mods and admins should be separate creatures)

Or even move on to better forum software (phpBB is nice but limited in many ways).

Re: Forums Question

Then i don't see the problem of trying to add some modifications to the forum. This is not the first time I have heard of someone wanting a very similar mod to this.

Re: Forums Question

There are two types of admin: (1) phpBB forum configure through admin panel and (2) direct access (ftp) to phpBB files in server. I am in admin panel only. Mods require ftp access.

You should request further access from judd, you're trustworthy and know what you are doing, it'd also take a bit of load off him too.

I'm going to make some slightly smaller images for the top, as well as some posting buttons to match as per dusty's suggestion, so someone is going to need to change them soon.

Another option would be to give one of the devs (dp or Xentac are my suggestions, but both are pretty busy) this sort of access. Judd trusts his senior developers more than us forum users.

Re: Forums Question

As an idea now when we have cactus as Wiki Tech Adviser, why not get someone for the Forum. Knows the technical side of phpBB, looks for new features (mods) or maybe a new forum system. Maintains and so on.

From my experience in usercb with mods, it requires a maintainer who is not loaded with other works. In hurry its easy to miss a line or code. To find a bug may require to re-install. To be honest, I am not upgrading usercb. smile ... did it once and that was enough.

Re: Forums Question

I nominate iphitus. He already made the graphics, and he seems to know web code...

That's basically what I was saying. I figured you would not have the interest in it otherwise you would be doing it. It would be the best to have a knowledgible and ACTIVE forum member to do it. Like I said their duty would strictly be forum maintainence and not moderating their are people who can do that already.

Damir, Judd and Jason are not what I would call active members.

The nomination is correct.... a person who also have a taste for nice design. Did not dp (or someone else) mention looong time ago planning to make a forum theme, this also goes under the job description.

To have an active forum member, how Sarah31 said it, I also prefer. Not only *active* but aware of user requests/complains and understands Arch's KISS philosophy and liking.
