My new ultrabook seems to have some trouble under linux currently. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
I realise that Sandybridge is still quite new, in terms of linux support at least, so I'm sure that a lot of these problems will perhaps be fixed with future kernel updates.
But I still wanted to ask the community if anyone else has experienced similar issues, and if so, how they fixed them (if at all).
1. With the current Arch Kernel (3.1.7. I believe) the cpu is at least 10c hotter than with the mainline kernel 3.2.1. I assume the sleep states for sandy bridge platforms is not implemented properly yet.
2. With the current Arch Kernel, the touchpad isn't very usable. Two finger scrolling for example doesn't work. Even with added options in the synaptic driver config for Xorg.
3. I searched the forums as well as the Wiki, and found that for this laptop the recommended Kernel was the Linux Mainline Kernel (3.2.1) from AUR.
I installed that kernel, and then indeed the touchpad works better, and the cpu runs 10c cooler. But I then experience random reboots.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? Or perhaps has some recommendations?

I think ux31 doesn't use synaptic touchpad. It uses selenic (or elantech in some cases). You might want to look at those drivers.

Didn't measured but, I have some heat issues, too. I am probing it.
I can successfuly scroll with two fingers and use middle click by two finger click. (Mine is Elantech)
I am using latest kernel (3.2.5-1-ARCH) with no reboot.
There is a wiki page about Asus Zenbook UX31E : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Asus_Zenbook_UX31E
But I have problems with suspend to RAM. When I tried, it lacks on black screen with cursor (like "_" ) and fan speeds up. Any suggestions ?

I simply followed the Archlinux wiki page about the Asus ux31.
Pretty much all my issues are solved.
