Re: new newsletter

Well make it interesting for one. Mostly I remember it being just a regurgitation of what most people probably already new.

There is probably a ton of stuff that could be added that could make more than just a regurgitation of arch stats, "current" hot topics on the forum, etc. Maybe user profiles? News from around the computing world (not just linux)? Dev/TU/ Profiles? Interviews with project developers like the developers of xine or other such projects.

Go for a more interesting "publication". You will have to work at it and may have to move to once a month or more but I am sure people would appreciate something more content rich than what has come before.

Re: new newsletter

hmm, not so bad idea that about having more general news, even though i think that it should stay somehow related to arch,

Re: new newsletter

That's a great idea but i think we'll need a whole new team to do that - i don't think we four have enough time run a full on publication.

The newsletter, as it stands, fulfills it's purpose.  It is an overview of recent past events (in case you missed them) and can also serve as a vessel for annoucing forthcoming events.

Some of the stats and stuff are a bit boring and pointless - you can get much better bug reports off Flyspray if you really give a shit!  We have discussed this aspect of the letter and we are working on it.

For me, the primary purpose of the current newsletter is to take a snapshot of the current state of things for future reference. Of course, this is because I already know most of what's going on in the community.

I really like the idea of a dev, tu, or community leader profile. That would be neat.

Nice work on the new newsletter guys. I like the slightly more jocular tone.

So, do I.

So, lets have some suggestions!  Have to be someone not too busy and someone who isn't a limelight hog usually....damn....that does narrow it down...

I think it would be cool to interview Simo but he is away.  The dev team recently had an interview so forget them.  Tough one this...

Re: new newsletter

The interview wasn't terribly indepth, personally, though. I'd suggest Judd or Jason first, they're the most responsible and loveable. Paul would be good too because he did a lot with AUR too and that's a pretty hot topic right now.

Rensel or sweirgot would be good, they're long-standing and important TUs that nobody seems to know about.

Re: new newsletter

Hmm - I'm sure Judd feels like he has been interviewed plenty!  Not that I am against hearing from him again but he's not one for public performance is he?  Then again no-one you mentioned is!  Paul seems a good choice - i didn't mention him cos I know he is hugely busy.  Xentac is obviously a good choice too but he helps write the letter - which would be kinda funny...

That's why I suggested them I guess. I mean, everybody KNOWS you and phrakture and cactus and I already.

What about Damir?

Re: new newsletter

He's busy too - he'll back on the boards again soon i think - he was in the lab this term - that's he has been so quiet.

I agree everyone knows us - what's left to know?  Anyone of the people you have suggested is a good choice Dusty

Re: new newsletter

if we make interviews it should be about techie stuff, like if i interview dusty i'll ask him about his projects and not what his dog had for breakfast and that sort of questions, tongue

maybe i interview ion developers, now that would rock, .D
