[SOLVED] Recommendations for Indoor Security Camera video recorder

I am looking for software that would record from a logitech webcam, without extreme filesize. Optimally, this would only record when something is moving in the cameras field of view. This is for indoor use, I suspect something...

Sorry to sound so creepy, but I don't know where to start. What can be used to record in linux from a webcam into encoded video, preferably with motion sensing to start the recording?

Edit: I am OK with recording 24/7 if the filesizes will fit within say 50GB over a few days. That should be enough?

Sorry to sound even more like an @ss, but stfwing returns nothing. Your google-for-me reply did however return this link http://www.unixmen.com/how-to-turn-your … -in-linux/ which may get me what I want. I did google beforehand and did not find exactly what I was looking for, and even now I am unsure. I will post back here again shortly.

Ended up going with Motion, which works well for me. Decided to set it up so that it saves jpgs at 3 per second when motion is detected. Filesize is small and I don't need audio.

In my opinion asking for a *recommendation* should not end in a sarcastic 'Google that for you'. I don't always find high Google rank to equal high quality. Sometimes Google may return multiple options, and it is unclear which one is best, in this case you may also want input from somebody with prior experience. No need to e-smack someone for asking for a recommendation. It is just that, a recommendation, if you don't want to give one, nobody is forcing you.

On the other hand, to not Google something before asking for help is just plain lazy. Or if you did Google, you should have said that in the OP. Eg, you could have increased the quality of your OP a million fold by simply saying:
