NTFS Write

Hi,

I was planning on using captive-ntfs to enable write permissions.  But I recently compiled my kernel and noticed that there's an option in menuconf to install NTFS write option.  I was wondering if the native NTFS driver is safe for writing, or if it's possible at all.

Thanks!

Will

Re: NTFS Write

I am not sure about the ntfs drivers.
However, here's what I do.  Since Linux and Windows can both read and write to vfat partitions, I create a vfat  partition and put on it the files that I want to access from both systems.

Re: NTFS Write

the kernel's ntfs write support is very limited. it basically only lets you edit a file if you don't change its size. it's pretty much useless.

Re: NTFS Write

I haven't tested it yet, but I found a guide in the Arch Wiki here about using captive for NTFS write support.

Built on: Mon Oct 17 14:51:37 CEST 2005

Thanks, guess I'll stick to captive then.

Just be VERY patient (it's slower than a snail) and don't use it on partitions larger than 128G, nor for Windows 2000 partitions (a severe bug is looming- and well known by both users and Captive developers-, but it's still unresolved as the Captive project was virtually abandoned quite some time ago).
