how do you run mpd without a local network?

I dont have internet/networked comp. at home anymore, but i would like to run an mpd demon.

Ive been searchin aroudn for a while on how to do it but with no luck.

Can anyone explain how to do this?

well, even if you don't have an ethernet card, there is still a "network" ... basically, there's a network address for the local computer.

you must've removed the network daemon. put it back in, and set up your rc.conf interfaces=(lo)

lo means loopback, so the kernel makes a fake ethernet card that only sees your computer. that way anything that's trying to access the network address 127.0.0.1 or localhost will still work.

you would have a lot of gnome issues without this too, but i guess you're one of us folks that don't like huge desktop environments smile
