Hi all,
So I have mutt, and msmtp properly configured, and working. Until I had to reinstall my system: so I restored all configurations from the backup, but when actually installing the programs, I forgot to install msmtp. Despite that fact, when I tried to send an email, no error was reported! Instead, the usual "Mail sent" phrase appeared in mutt's bottom bar (lacking a better name for it). It was only a couple of hours later, when I realized that the mail wasn't actually sent, that I tried to discover why, and found that msmtp was not installed at all.
So my question is: is there a way (patch and/or config) to change mutt's behaviour so that when something like this happens, a proper error is reported?
Thanks in advance!

Not to blow off your question, but this sounds like a question/possible bug report for upstream.

Yes, I'll take care of it (despite my delay it's still quite a valid remark )

With mutt 1.5.21-6 from [extra], and ":set sendmail=/usr/bin/foobarbaz", I get:
Error sending message, child exited 127 (Exec error.).
So that looks like correct behaviour to me...

I just tested your scenario, and I get the same erroneous behaviour: the mail sent message in the status bar. I have installed mutt-sidebar from the AUR; latest version 1.5.20-5. But I guess now I know this isn't a mutt issue... I'll leave a link to this thread in the AUR page (I'm not sure if bugs relating to AUR packages should go to the bugtracker)
