Realtek RTL8188CE problem

Hi all,

  I'm running into problems with the wifi card on my new Christmas present.  It's a Realtek RTL8188CE.  When I booted the Arch netinstall image I could get it to associate to the access point but it wouldn't pick up an address.  I ended up doing the base install using a Mint live cd.  Had no wifi problems at all in Mint.  When I booted back into the Arch base system I again had no problem associating with the access point and picked up an address after 2 or 3 attempts.  However, the network still disappears every few seconds.  When I try to ping google I'll get 8 or 10 returns and then 15-20 lines of network unavailable then a few returns again and so on.

Any ideas?

On my laptop, I cannot get an IP adress...

Hi,

I have the same card here, and I have the same problems, namely difficulties to catch an IP adress, random and quick deconnections. It seems that Realtek published a new version of its drivers on its website Realtek drivers, yet I have not tested them. There is also a driver package in the aur that I did not test, but it does not seem to solve the problems, according to the comments there.

However, I found a forum where they say that the card has difficulties to connect on wifis with same names or special caracters in their names. And when I tried to change my wifi name to something less common, it worked very well, get an IP quickly and downloading at the same speed as my wired network. I know this is not a sufficient solution, yet it can be enough waiting new working drivers and a new package in the AUR.
