Hello,
I have a problem with network printers, I read the official guide and install cups and all drivers. But if go to localhost:631 my system doesn't notice any printers. My avahi and cupsd deamon work fine. Can you help me?

Thanks

Re: Network Printers

What make and model printer?
Can you "ping" the printer?
Wired or Wireless printers?
Did you install the printer in Cups using the administrator options?
If, not, did you use tools such as those provided by KDE?
Do the printers have web servers? Can you see those servers with a browser?

Any other relevant information you can tell us?

Re: Network Printers

I tested with some network printers of my University (HP)(ethernet) and my home printer and it's a lexmark (wireless).
I'm able to ping my network printer.
For "Did you install the printer in Cups using the administrator options?" what do you mean?
I use the gnome tool for printers.

Re: Network Printers

If possible try to install them locally first (over USB).

Ewaller asked you for a make and model. If you want help, supply the info we require. It's not like Lexmark has only produced one printer model ever.

And make sure your printer drivers are installed.

Sorry for the late. All the printers that I use, can be installad over USB. The hp printer is HP LaserJet 4350. I installed the printer drivers, but nothing happens. If I try to launch hp-toolbox the shell shows me this message:

hp-toolbox requires gui support exiting archlinux

I installe pyqt, qt3 and qt4. But the shell shows me the same message.

Re: Network Printers

Hello,

I managed to get an HP 4250 working over the network not long ago.. shouldn't be too much different.
When adding the printer in CUPS web interface, I selected the following options:

  • AppSocket/HP JetDirect

  • socket://192.168.11.150:9100 as the address. (change the address for your printer)

  • Name/Location/Description as desired.

Make sure printer is not sleeping before clicking next.. this caused an issue for me.

  • After clicking next, choose the desired printer driver (try some different ones.. I used pcl3 hpcups and it works great. Different drivers provide different options for resolution etc.)

Set your default print options and you should be good to go.
