I have a microSD card that i was using in my NookColor. I rooted my tablet (a long time ago) and was installing a new rom yesterday. after installing the rom and booting the os, the SD card wouldnt mount. So i tried plugging it into my laptop (w Arch and Win7) via a USB dongle and upon trying to mount it in Nautilus it says "Error mounting: mount: /dev/sdb: can't read superblock" I have tinkered with changing the superblock data and running testdisk but it all fails to find any relevant partition data returning:

I ran UFS explorer in win7 and it found a bunch of my files, but then refused to copy anything over claiming that the source files could not be read.
Some more tidbits:
dumpe2fs /dev/sdb | grep superblock
dumpe2fs 1.41.14 (22-Dec-2010)
dumpe2fs: Permission denied while trying to open /dev/sdb
Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock.
anyone know of anything i can do here. I would REALLY like to get some of my data back.

Might I suggest, before you do anything else, that you carefully use dd to make an image of the device by writing all the blocks of the device to a file someplace.
Then, you can copy that file, then use the copy for your experiments. If something goes awry, just make a new copy and play some more.

thnks . i definitely should have done that but i managed to pull all the info by reading the card as "non partitioned" . i think the card is borked because it constantly fails to maintain mounted status... but at least i was able to grab what i needed (the whole time i was scared as **** about losing it, so making that backup wouldve been smart)

My thoughts on backups:
It is not backed up unless there are not at least two copies.
A backup is not a backup unless it has been tested.
Backups should not all be in the same location.
There are two types of people, those who have lost critical data, and those who make backups.

I am glad you recovered your data.
