Carry on using pacman without major intervention? [SOLVED]

Hi all,

I have 4 Arch machines and very little time right now. I've put off upgrades for the last week because of the pacman 4 upgrade. Whilst there is loads of very detailed info about setting up the new features of pacman 4, I can't see if these features are mandatory or not. Can I carry on as I was and not spend time setting up gnu keys or whatever it is?

Re: Carry on using pacman without major intervention? [SOLVED]

There are quite a few threads and quite a few frustrations on the topic - it would seem.  Though the process is pretty strait forward as long as you merge your pacnew's and follow the instructions in the pacman output.

If you do this, the default setting in pacman.conf.pacnew is to not check package signatures.  If you do not change this default then you will not need to fuss with the rest.  Or to answer more directly, these features are not mandatory (yet?) and are even off by default.

Can you carry on without worrying about keys?  Yes - if you keep the default "SigLevel = Never" in pacman.conf.  Though you will have to merge your pacnew (or pacsave) files.  This should not take more than a couple minutes.

Thanks for the perfect and rapid answer, Trilby - I can now upgrade and merge my least important system without (too much) fear of spending the whole day mucking about learning about encryption keys!

I think you can mark the thread as solved. I know you know how :-)
