the key "AltGr" that helps typing more keys on your keyboard (like the at-sign and others i cannot type now because of this) are not do not longer function under X ... (in VC's it works)
the only change i did was installing wdm (removing do not help :-( )
keyboard-part of XFree86Config looks like this:
Section "InputDevice"
Driver "Keyboard"
Identifier "Keyboard[0]"
Option "MapName" "Standard Keyboard [ pc101 ]"
Option "Protocol" "Standard"
Option "XkbLayout" "de_CH"
Option "XkbModel" "pc101"
Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"
EndSection
(but it is the same as before, when it worked)
it's really bad not being able to type AT in email-addresses and using pipe and the other special keys in X (and xterms) ... any suggestions? thanx in advance
EDIT:
xev gives this when AltGr is pressed:
KeyPress event, serial 27, synthetic NO, window 0x2c00001,
root 0x48, subw 0x0, time 743008, (-169,343), root:(714,363),
state 0x0, keycode 113 (keysym 0xffea, Alt_R), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes: ""
KeyRelease event, serial 27, synthetic NO, window 0x2c00001,
root 0x48, subw 0x0, time 743074, (-169,343), root:(714,363),

Get a US keyboard ?!? ;-) ... SCNR, but the US layout is much better in that regard, @ | and etc are on much more convenient locations than on the German layout (I guess the swiss is similar).
Anyways, but why it worked again ? Restart X ? Log-out log-in ? Reboot ?

My guess is you updated gnome-desktop and it was a problem with the keybindings. IIRC, AltGr has to be handled by the WM.

.... yes, at the university we have us-keyboards in the informatics-rooms; but then i'm not able to type keys used by us swiss (öäüéàè) easily

restart X: well about 10 times (while playing with the config and trying to tell the X that Alt_R is not Alt, it's AltGr)
login/-out: you mean of what? (in the VC, the keyboard works nicely, only X was the problem)
Reboot: reboot to solve problem in X? i think this is needed only on "primitive" platforms ...
i would with pleasure try to use another layout under x if someone knows a easy way to type one of these keys öäüéàè (.. without remapping the layout :-) )

very possibly ... this is the only change that gave me AltGr back ...
