lirc with xbmc -- Install lirc or use mceusb module?

About a year ago or so my remote worked fine with lirc installed from repositories. Then I had few problems with harddrive and didn't touch HTPC much.

Right now, with new harddrive in place, I reinstalled arch linux and xbmc and trying to get lirc working.. However it doesn't work the way it should.

The way I understand is that lirc conflicts with mceusb (I have latest Arch, installed from 2011.08.19 release). I am getting double keypresses with lircd started.

Should I use mceusb module? or should I use lirc? I am kind of confused.

I just went through the trials and tribulations of setting Lirc up on my Zotac Nano AD10 (neat little device btw). The Arch wiki nicely states that most onboard IR receivers will work with the mceusb module. It works here.

So you didn't install lirc package?
What about lirc-utils?

You'll need lirc-utils. You might or might not need lirc itself, I did install it but it seems none of the modules that it provides are in use. I'm just starting out with this though, so no guarantees smile.

Does anyone know how I can disable kernel portion of lirc?

I think lirc package by itself can work fine for my needs and kernel module gets in the way.
