Hey all,
I've got a 2TB External HD that I'm trying to mount and I'm having all sorts of trouble. It's formatted as NTFS because I use it with my Windows partition as well.
When I turn it on it does show up on the desktop as a removable drive should but when I try to open it I get:
Failed to open directory 'FS-Label'. Error stating file '/media/FS-Label/$RECYCLE.BIN': Input/output error.
If I then try to eject it I get an error that it's busy.
It IS mounting, in console I can cd into /media/FS-Label and access all the files, copied some of them to my HD, but I can't access it in Thunar. I tried to rm \$RECYCLE.BIN and I get the same error:
rm: cannot remove `$RECYCLE.BIN': Input/output error
I ran ntfsfix on the drive and it didn't seem to do anything:
[root@JD-ArchDesktop by-label]# ntfsfix /dev/sdg1
Mounting volume... OK
Processing of $MFT and $MFTMirr completed successfully.
NTFS volume version is 3.1.
NTFS partition /dev/sdg1 was processed successfully.
Any thoughts on how I might be able to get this mounted?
Thanks!

i had a similar problem with thunar not being able to access external drives (regardless of filesystem),
pacman -S gvfs gvfs-afc
seemed to fix the problem
i don't know what these packages do but could be worth a shot....

Just marked it Solved. Turns out the device did have some errors with it. I ran a disk check in Windows overnight and it found and fixed errors and it mounts just fine in Arch now.
