Hi all,
Thought I'd better introduce myself.
I started tinkering with Linux back with Redhat 5.0 - Now I feel old...
These days I run a dual boot Ubuntu/Win7 box for the family, a Mythbuntu based MythTV box in the lounge, an Open Solaris file/mail server (ZFS rocks) and the Arch netbook I'm on right now. So as you see I'm a bit of an Operating System Hussy, using whatever I think best for the job at any given time.
While I've been running arch for over six months I've held off on joining the forums to force myself to solve all the minor issues I've had without asking for help.
So far I'm enjoying the Arch ride.

Hello Everybody,
I moved from Windows to Linux Mint just before I found out about Arch a year or so ago. At first I couldn't decide on what desktop environment to use and would change it every couple of months, but I have now settled with Openbox which I am very happy with I probably wouldn't be using linux at all if it wasn't for the great ArchWiki which has helped me a lot, especially the beginners guide. If it wasn't for that then I wouldn't have been able to install it at all.
I still have a lot to learn and most my Openbox configuration (conky, tint2) has been copied and pasted from various forums with very minor modification, but it is all part of the learning process. I only need to get one more piece of software installed to then have everything I need and to get rid of my Windows dual boot, but for the life of me I cant manage to get it to install. Will get there eventually but the key is to keep on trying

After hearing so many good things about Arch, I decided to check it out.
I passed the padawan test to get registered so I guess I'm now officially a Arch n00b
That was a fun bit of testing. Made my day!
What put me over the edge, being a long-time Ubuntu person, was the kind soul
who created the "MATE" fork of Gnome is an Arch user.
So, Hello

Hello there !
I'll just introduce myself a little...
I'm currently a french student and I'm not quite a new Arch user as I'm using it since at least five or six years.
What can I say ?.. I'm a Twitter addict, a Python fanboy and I'm always looking for new Linux stuffs.
So, see you
Why choose the lesser evil ?
You can follow me on Twitter (beware, it's mostly french).

Hello everyone! I installed Arch over the weekend and thought I'd make my way here. I've used Ubuntu for 3 years, starting with 8.10, and I decided I'd try something new when I had to get a new harddrive for my laptop.
I actually prefer to RTFM rather than dig through forums for answers, so I think I will fit in with this group. I've learned quite a bit already and it was satisfying to learn to fix the challenges I faced thus far. (trying to use GPT and GRUB1 and then breaking /etc/fstab and preventing my boot drive from mounting are the highlights so far)

Hello Arch world,
My first distro was debian and I switched to some ubuntu version in 2006. I was happy with it. At some point went to KxStudio since I want to do audio and video stuff, but I was always a little disappointed when I found a great new release with a new feature I wanted and it took forever to get into the Ubuntu repos. In the end I had a bazillion PPAs in my 'buntu and dependency problems started to occur... My last switch went to LMDE, because it sounded like what I needed, a nice and usable distro like Mint as a rolling release. But still, a lot of packages were very out of date...
I like the Arch idea, but I'm not someone who really wants to do all the setup for himself and I don't need anything esoteric other than a working desktop environment and something like Gnome-Do to quickly launch my stuff. So here I switch because of the great package management, great documentation (Arch wiki helped me a lot in other distros), recent packages and kxstudio's great arch packages (THANK YOU falktx!).
I'm not looking forward to the occasional system tweaking, but I think I've settled now and it feels good to have something that fits my needs and that is so adaptable.
Thank you, Arch developers

Hi all,
I've posted a couple of times in the forums whilst I built my Arch system to see if it would suit me. Having now moved the build to it's own drive (usurping debian that was there before) I figured I should say "Hi".
Been using Linux a long time on and off (My first install was debian 3 m68k on my old Amiga 1200 many many years ago. I went through the obligatory Ubuntu stage before deciding I just didn't like the 'buntu/Canonical way. Flirted briefly with Linux Mint, then LMDE for a longer period before I decided I might as well go pure Debian. That lasted close on 12 months, until I built LFS and saw how efficient a custom made Linux could be, which lead me to a choice of either Arch or Gentoo. Arch won, and here I am.
I expect I'll stay awhile now
I use Linux as my day to day system and it's always my first port of call, though unfortunately I'm self-employed and have to use a Windows only proprietary package for work. It would probably work in vbox, but the license only allows one installation and the serial is tied to the hardware (which gets faked by vbox making it a non-starter. May try it using wine and see how I get on. I'd rather not have to boot Windows (had to yesterday and the updates took half an hour including the 3 reboots it insisted on).
Apart from that, Linux does everything I need, and I've managed to fix the odd niggles that Arch presented when I started.

Hello everyone! I'm Omair and I have been a Linux user since 2006. I started with Ubuntu on my brother's recommendation. Then I hopped around for a while (tried openSUSE, Gentoo and Fedora). Then I decided to join Arch. And so far I love it.
Thank you all for the great community, development and wiki .. I hope I stick around

Hi everybody!
I'm Dystopian I have been a Linux user since 2008, I tried with Ubuntu, then switched to Mint, then to Debian, then to openSUSE and the list goes on and on. I kept on hopping around until I found Arch, and I think this is the best distro I have tried until now. I hope to stay around for a long time

Hello all, I'm x0r.
I consider myself completely new to Linux and Arch as my first distro, despite having used Ubuntu for a whole 2 days prior.
I can't say I really know the first thing about Linux or that this is easy on me but I am definitely willing to learn and hopefully one day become a valuable part of the community.
This is definitely going to be a fun learning experience and I hope all goes well, hopefully I won't have to pester the community too much with my noobish questions.

Hi everyone,
my name's Matteo and I'm on my journey to find the distro that I'll call "home".
I'm actually using Arch because it seems "The Slackware as it should be" (let's hope not having offended two communities in one sentence! ).
I like the good documentation, the granularity in the management of the software, the fact that this distro is as almost "vanilla" as Slack (correct me if I'm wrong, pls).
The hw on which Arch is running is very new : i7-2600k / Asus P8P67-EVO / AMD6970 (I'm using driver radeon for the moment). No hw/configuration problems with my surprise.
I'm italian, about to graduate, and I hope to contribute to this community.
Good arching everyone!

Hello, I am posting from my first arch installation
I started with Slackware about 7 years ago, learned that ubuntu had a binary package manager and used that for years. Now ubuntu has really overstepped its boundries as an operating system, now I'm here
So, I'll say hello to neuromancer above me (hi! That's a great book) and say hello to the rest of the community, hope to stick around for a while!

Hello all. I'm Dave and today I managed to find the time to install Arch on my desktop PC.
I've been using Linux for about two years now and as standard I started with Ubuntu but I soon became quite a frantic distro hopper until I found Fedora 15, I stayed with that from release until Fedora 16 arrived, I have that running on my ThinkPad but I haven't had much joy with it on this machine. Today I figured I'd give Arch another go (I've tried it in the past but I had issues with network connections) and two and a half hours later I had everything running as I wanted.
I'm running Gnome 3 and when I booted and it went to fallback mode I was not amused because there was a lot of faff to get the Nvidia drivers to work in Fedora but they are so easy in Arch. I think I'm a convert.

Hi all, it's good to be here. Just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself.
About my journey to Arch:
Fully dove into the the wonderful world of FOSS a few years ago and never looked back. I started with Ubuntu but switched to #! (crunchbanglinux.org) before the whole Unity DE thing started for a simpler and leaner system. I currently have roughly half of my systems still using #!/Debian and the other half on Debian Sid (the 'unstable' branch of Debian) with a similar setup as #!.
I've read and played with as much as I can to learn Linux intimately, even building a system from scratch a la the LFS project (www.linuxfromscratch.org/) to get an idea how the underlying system works. From my experiences I've learned what I really liked in a system; namely a simple/K.I.S.S. system with a lean and fast desktop environment. So naturally I feel inclined/obligated to try out Arch, which I'm sure to love whether it ultimately becomes my main/prefered distro or not. In the meantime I'm happy to be here.

Hi all, it's good to be here
Welcome! Glad to have you here. Wow, LFS? You rock!!! Once I grow a few more brain cells, I'm going to give that a try. Anyway, once again, welcome, and enjoy the Arch Way

Wow, LFS? You rock!!!
Don't be too impressed, it was a lot of copy and paste of instructions with not as much insight as I was hoping, though I suspect going beyond the basics (i.e. the 'Beyond Linux From Scratch') or trying to use/maintain such a system would be much more enlightening.
...enjoy the Arch Way
Of course, why would anyone ever want to be any other way?
