kmod deletes modprobe.conf

Upon upgrading to kmod my modprobe.conf was deleted. Not changed to another name, but deleted.

It is either this, or the event of not having mod-init-tools that has rendered by keyboard and mouse (and system) useless, I assume.

I am off to create a new modprobe from scratch...

Hopefully I will learn a lot.

Any pointers are more than welcome

Re: kmod deletes modprobe.conf

If the file was deleted, it means there was nothing of value in there - you never configured anything in it. If you had, you'd have a .pacsave file. So whatever your issue is, it's unrelated to modprobe.conf.

Re: kmod deletes modprobe.conf

Please excuse me, but what would be helpful?

The long dmesg?

Re: kmod deletes modprobe.conf

Yes, we can start with dmesg.
If your keyboard works in the console (you can test it even if you ordinarly boot straight to X) but doesn't work in X, post /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Re: kmod deletes modprobe.conf

I have to boot out of windows to do all this, but am waiting on a task to complete first.

While I wait... I boot to console automatically, I have to manually type 'startx' upon each boot. So I already know keyboard does not work in console, but I will post xorg logs anyways because I know that connecting a usb mouse and starting x is really screwed because clock won't even load.

Re: kmod deletes modprobe.conf

EDIT: I think it is worthy to note that I have provided the update log for 1/20/2012 and 1/23/2012 (there was nothing in between) BUT the mouse and keyboard stopped working even after the 20th, and module-init-tools was not touched until the 23rd.

Which means it was something about the update on the 20th that is making my laptop's (xps 15z) onboard keyboard and mouse fail.

Re: kmod deletes modprobe.conf

I believe I'm having the same issue. My system (Thinkpad W510) boots to a graphical environment but none of my input devices (keyboard, trackpoint, touchpad) work. It also seems to not be powering my usb devices. Moving the modprobe .pacsave did not resolve the issue.
EDIT: It also seems to be unable to detect my soundcard.

Re: kmod deletes modprobe.conf

My modprobe.conf was deleted as I never configured it before.
/etc/modprobe.d folder is empty.
However I have no problems with input devices. All works fine after reboot.
