Laptop freezes when laptop lid is shut.

Hi, I have a dell studio 1555. Whenever I shut my laptop screen it freezes, I verified it by shutting the screen while playing music.

It is not a graphics driver issue because it happens even at boot(It does not happen while booting into windows)

EDIT: Graphics card is ati 4570.

Additionally, if i suspend to ram and resume than the problem disappears till i reboot,

Not to dig up a dead thread, but since this is the first result for the search term "dell studio 1555 arch linux laptop freezes on lid close" on google, I thought it appropriate.

Does anyone have a fix for this yet?  It's independent of driver, and X doesn't even have to be running.   This has been happening since... God, at least a year now.  I still haven't fixed this yet (but not due to a lack of trying), and I really can't find any relevant information online.  Can anyone help?

Subject-17, you'd better start a thread on your own and link back here. This way chances are better to receive answers. And you will be in control of your own thread, e.g. able to mark it solved in case it is.
