Hiah folks,
just to clarify the machine is currently working and disk checks on the drives come back clean.
However I'm still a bit concerned.
When I first booted up this morning the system came up with the error (rootfs could not be found) then it dropped me to a shell to find it. Now my Dvd drive showed up in /dev/ but my hard drives did not.
On a reboot all drives were there and the system booted up normally.
I'm going to move backup day forward as a precaution, should I be worried or will this be a one off glitch?

I don't think that this could be the cause of the problem, but I believe you should change the <pass> (last field) in each filesystem. Only root should be 1, the others should be changed to 2.

Woops, thanks for spotting that. I must have done some copy-pasta there. Probably not what caused the error though.
