Re: Ayatana Project on Archlinux - official thread

If anyone's interested: I created a PKGBUILD for globalmenu-extension (both Firefox and Thunderbird as split package).
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=55724

It compiles from their 2.0 branch (trunk fails here). There are no release tarballs, that's why I didn't call it -bzr
Tested on x86_64 with oxygen-appmenu in KDE 4.8rc.

Re: Ayatana Project on Archlinux - official thread

Hey guys, what packages would I need to get installed if I wanted just a top screen panel with support for app menus, and those sexy indicators and just that. I don't need full-blown unity, just the panel, indicators, separated app menus.

So far, I have

% pacman -Q |grep indicat
indicator-applet 0.4.14-1
indicator-application 0.2.9-3
indicator-appmenu 0.3.2-2
libindicate 0.4.4-3
libindicator 0.3.14-1
libindicator3 0.4.1-2

installed on GNOME 3.0.x (yeah, it's old, I know) but I still see only the old top panel. Do I have to run something or is the idea to install a number of packages and have it appear automagically?

Update
Btw, those are installed from ayatana repository.

The indicators don't work with the gnome3-panel IIRC. It's unity or bust for now.

Huh, seems I was wrong then. I suppose you could try modifying a PKGBUILD for the old indicator-applet provided by this project to use the code for the applet on https://launchpad.net/~jconti/+archive/gnome3
