Downsampling with NVIDIA Cards on Arch Linux

Hello,

some of you might be familiar with downsampling already. Basically it's forcing a higher resolution
onto your screen trough the graphics driver. It is used in games as an brute-force anti-aliasing technique.

How can this be done in Linux? I'm using the latest NVIDIA 290.10 driver and a resolution of 1280x800
on my 5 years old laptop. 1680x1050 would also be an 8:5 ratio and much more practical and nicer to the eye.
My main motivation is a larger screenspace. I don't want to improve the quality of any games.

Anyone has any experience with this?

Regards,

blackout23

Re: Downsampling with NVIDIA Cards on Arch Linux

In nvidia-settings you can modify resolutions. Go to "X Server Display Configuration" click "Advanced..." . Select 1280x800 as Resolution. Then set "ViewPortIn" and "Panning" to 1680x1050. Make sure "Force Comosition Pipeline" is checked. -> Apply
Late, but maybe it helps somebody.

Thanks for sharing, however pay attention to the dates, it has been 6 years since the question was asked.
