I have successfully installed Arch on my Latitude laptop with a 256MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M vidcard. As I have done many times before.I have installed only the base, so no x.
After the reboot, Arch starts. I get the Grub screen and the boot process starts. The last thing I see is a text about udev, but then, within a split second, all the text is gone.
What remains is a black screen, with only the backlight burning. The laptop seems to work, because I can ping it from another machine.
I tried Archbang, and I get x there, but I would like to install Archlinux, without X if possible.
Any suggestions on how to prevent my screen from disappearing?
Thanks!

I guess framebuffer is not working correctly on your machine. Delete the vga= parameter on the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst. Then you should see the console. This is no resolution for the framebuffer problem however, but at leas it is a start. dmesg should be your next step.

Have you installed either the nvidia or nouveau drivers? I had a similar problem time ago when I had an nVidia powered laptop. The first boot after a fresh install required adding "nomodeset" to the boot parameters for avoiding sitting in front of a black screen. Then, I could install a video driver (I was using the proprietary one provided by nvidia) and forget about "nomodeset".
Maybe it helps

Hi all!
Problem solved. I added nomodeset to te boot parameters (as there was no VGA= entry).
Thanks for the quick response!
