This isn't a significant problem for me since YouTube are the only site that really use HTML5 videos a.t.m. (so far as I've seen..?), and you can opt out, but I thought I should make somebody aware of it.
I'm using a Native Instruments Audio4 DJ external soundcard. I haven't experienced any other issues with it yet (just doing normal stuff that people who don't use external soundcards do: browse the web, listen to music). If I switch the onboard soundcard to be the default card it plays HTML5 fine.
This post isn't a plea for technical help, although that would be appreciated, but for advice. I suspect this is just an undiscovered bug, since using a multi-track USB soundcard with HTML5 under Linux is most definitely an edge case. But who should I report it to? I've never filed a bug before and I'm not a developer. Is this most likely to be a bug with Firefox, with the hardware, with ALSA? If it's a bug with ALSA would I report it as a bug in the usb_snd_caiaq module that the soundcard uses? If someone talks about "the driver", are they referring to that module?
Edit: right, I've come back today and HTML5 now produces sound, but *on a different channel* (that is, the soundcard has two fully distinct stereo output channels - it's swapped). Nothing had changed since the last reboot so I don't know what to think now! I'll keep updating here for people in the future if I work out what's going on.
