Replacing laptop main hard drive.

Im think my laptop is due for a new hard drive soon ( and some memory while im at it ).

Tricky bit is: I'd like to keep my current installation running, or at least my current configuration.

Is it possible to do this without a total re-install? If so, what would be the best approach in arch?

PS. not really sure if this belongs in the laptop thread, sorry if I screwed up on that count.

Re: Replacing laptop main hard drive.

you could use one of those image backup programs. I used clonezilla when I changed my hdd in my desktop and worked just fine.

I use cp -a for this - done it quite a few times now, with no issues.

+1 on this. Partition the new disk, create filesystems, cp -a, install grub to the new disk's mbr, adjust /boot/grub/menu.lst and /etc/fstab with the new partions' uuids (or labels if you use labels) and you should be good to go.
