util-linux 2.21-rc1 -- testers wanted

If anyone is interested in testing the latest util-linux RC, tomegen has made packages available for download (see a few posts down):

And if you want the nitty gritty details, a full changelog can be found here: ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/ut … -ChangeLog

Bug-type feedback is encouraged. Of particular interest is mount and umount, as I've enabled entirely new implementations based purely on libmount. No, this won't be the default for Arch's actual 2.21 package, but I've been using it myself and haven't found any show stoppers yet. That said, you should expect to find bugs of varying severities and perhaps slightly different behavior, but I'm very much interested in finding these bugs now so that we can perhaps enable this for 2.22.

So this won't be in the [testing] repo proper, we have to get it from the addresses provided here?

I don't believe tomegun has any plans of packaging this for [testing]. We haven't pushed u-l RCs in the past.

Re: util-linux 2.21-rc1 -- testers wanted

Nope, no -rc's in testing. However, I do usually make them available unofficially:
http://dev.archlinux.org/~tomegun/util- … pkg.tar.xz
http://dev.archlinux.org/~tomegun/util- … pkg.tar.xz

I also enabled the new mount for now, but expect to revert before 2.21. Depends on what kind of feedback we get really.

Use Tom's packages, even though the versioning is a bit strange wink

Yeah. Noticed that. Since which version of pacman, a decimal pkgrel is allowed?

Re: util-linux 2.21-rc1 -- testers wanted

I installed Tom's package (i686) and upon rebooting got this:

Fri Jan 20 11:09:20 2012: :: Remounting Root ^[[231G   [BUSY] ^[[231G   [DONE]
Fri Jan 20 11:09:20 2012: :: Mounting Local Filesystems ^[[231G   [BUSY] ^[[231G   [FAIL]

Fri Jan 20 11:09:21 2012: :: Starting Network ^[[231G   [BUSY] ^[[231G   [DONE]
Fri Jan 20 11:09:30 2012: :: Starting rpcbind ^[[231G   [BUSY] ^[[231G   [DONE]
Fri Jan 20 11:09:30 2012: :: Starting rpc.statd daemon ^[[231G   [BUSY] ^[[231G   [DONE]
Fri Jan 20 11:09:30 2012: :: Mounting Network Filesystems ^[[231G   [BUSY] ^[[231G   [FAIL]

However, everything seems to be working correctly and my NFS share is correctly mounted.

Please let me know what other details you may require

Re: util-linux 2.21-rc1 -- testers wanted

mount is exiting 64 which means "some mounts succeeded" according to the manpage. Not clear if this is intended behavior or not, but it's already been mentioned to upstream.

Re: util-linux 2.21-rc1 -- testers wanted

v2.21-rc2 pkg?

EDIT: Will this pkg make the /lib to /usr/lib etc. move?

Doubtful - that would be one of the last packages to change...
