nvidia-settings can't find dialog (solved)

I plugged a second monitor into the vga port.
Run nvidia-settings, set up the second head.
I press "Apply".  I can't find the "are you sure you want to apply" dialog anywhere.  The display resets.

This is pretty frustrating, the settings work but they aren't sticking because the confirm dialog isn't anywhere to be found on the desktop!

I'm running windowmaker trying to do this, gf240.

Have you tried accepting it blind? Maybe if you press tab or left or right arrowkey (I think the selection is on 'No' button by default) on the keyboard and press Enter it will send it to the dialog - wherever it is.

Re: nvidia-settings can't find dialog (solved)

It doesn't seem to do anything.  If I hit return i get a cancel.  If I hit tab or arrow it doesn't seem to change anything.  Checking again to make sure the dialog is allowed to grab focus...it should all be set up fine.  No dialog, can't find it and can't seem to focus it!

Okay, looks to be something specific to windowmaker and how it handles dialogs.  I'm honestly not sure how to fix it!

Found this:

http://repo.or.cz/w/wmaker-crm.git/comm … df6199c204

Apparently when the "test configuration" is enabled windowmaker restarts all the applications (or something like that) which apparently kills the dialog (or something like that).

removing --enable-xrandr and rebuilding did the trick.

Okay, that did the trick and I have a second head but now without the xrandr i can't actually put anything on the second head! (grrr)

Real fix:  re-installed the default window maker.
downloaded nvidia-settings from the nvidia website.
hacked src/gtk/ctkdisplayconfig.c at about line 6026 so the revert doesn't do anything.
