dual-head, feh, and libpng version [Solved]

A continuation of the saga from https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=117657

Basically, long story short, feh > 1.12 doesn't display dual-head wallpapers properly (it repeats the same image on both monitors), but feh 1.12 broke when libpng upgraded to version 1.5 (from 1.4).

feh: error while loading shared libraries: libpng14.so.14: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I can't easily downgrade libpng since half a dozen other programs depend on libpng >= 1.5 now, but the new version of feh doesn't work.

Most other people seem to have switched to other programs for setting wallpaper, like nitrogen, but that won't work for me, as I have some bash scripts which use imagemagick to create a wallpaper dynamically every 30min and set it using feh, and according to my understanding nitrogen requires manual (GUI) intervention to do anything other than "resume" the previous wallpaper.

Any ideas? Could I somehow have both libpng 1.4 and 1.5 installed side-by-side? Make libpng14.so.14 a symlink pointing at libpng15 and hope it works the same? Some magic new feh syntax that properly spreads the image across both monitors? Another CLI wallpaper setting program?

I use Openbox for WM, btw.

Why not just recompile the old version of feh against libpng1.5 from abs?

You could also install libpng1.4 from the AUR, someone put a package up.

Re: dual-head, feh, and libpng version [Solved]

Actually, an even better solution presented itself. (It figures that, right after I give up and post on the forums is when I find the answer. Actually knowing that tends to happen is half the reason I post on these forums anyway. =p)

The new version of feh has a feature (I'm not sure since when, it wasn't there in 1.14) where you can pass the commandline argument --no-xinerama to treat the dual-head desktop as a single large desktop, i.e. how it used to work.

So I can use the newest version of feh (2.3-2) and just add an extra argument to my scripts to make it work again, like so:

feh --bg-center --no-xinerama --no-fehbg /tmp/temp2.png
