Minecraft Black Screen (wrong ELF class) [SOLVED-ISH]

Hi,

I am having the issue where I get a black screen after logging into Minecraft. Specifically this is what appears in the terminal:

[davidmn@asgard Downloads]$ java -jar minecraft.jar
27 achievements
174 recipes
Setting user: davidmn, -7917224269415528924

This is the result of "java -version":

OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea7 2.0) (ArchLinux build 7.b147_2.0-6-x86_64)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 21.0-b17, mixed mode)

I'm running 64bit and have an NVidia graphics card with the driver reccomened in the Beginners Guide. Any suggestions would be welcome.

What did do?  Did it fix the problem?

Haven't tried it yet, I'm currently away from the Arch machine.

I just got back to the machine and tried that. No joy. Same error message.

Same error?  That doesn't sound right.  Did you start MC from the same terminal where you ran the command?  I think that's necessary when exporting a variable from the command line.

Re: Minecraft Black Screen (wrong ELF class) [SOLVED-ISH]

I did. I managed to fix this by installing Minecraft from the AUR and everything works beautifully now.

Having this problem (probably similar but new) and installing minecraft from the AUR works perfectly.

Re: Minecraft Black Screen (wrong ELF class) [SOLVED-ISH]

Just blindly running commands wont really help you in the long run.
The command bellow

$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/opt/java/jre/lib/i386"

expects that you have installed java in /opt/java.
You should always atleast check the if the folders/files exist.

Openjdk in arch is installed by default
/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk/

Check where is java installed on your system :

$ echo ${JAVA_HOME}

So for 86_64 architecture would be command like this:

$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk/jre/lib/amd64/"

There's absolutely no need to install minecraft AUR package to fix this problem.
