How to use b43 driver

Hey everybody,

I'm a recent convert from from Ubuntu, and as a result am completely lost when it comes to installing firmware drivers, namely my wireless card driver. From what I gathered, it's a Broadcom b43. Documentation I found said it's included with kernels nowadays, but evidently not. I nabbed the b43-fwcutter from the Alinux CD, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with it.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Please first search the great arch wiki before posting in the forums.

Maybe this can help:

Yes, I already checked that page before I posted here. It says that I need to download the package from the AUR, but I cannot do this, as I do not have internet access in the first place.

Re: How to use b43 driver

If your card needs the b43 driver, all you need to do is load it at startup, by adding it to the list of modules in your rc.conf
You might want to configure one or more network profiles after that.

EDIT : you might want to check if you're wireless interface is activated too, it took me quite some time to figure out that my laptop wireless switch wasn't working correctly.

Re: How to use b43 driver

I ended up downloading the drivers onto a flash drive, and realizing that it's just not happy when I install the drivers through

chroot

. It works now, thanks for your patience!

What? Download?

Did you read what mob said? All you need to do is load the module from your rc.conf. That's it.

The broadcom-wl still needs installing from AUR, but you've asserted your card can use b43 ...

Actually, that's wrong. The kernel has b43, but the required firmware is not in any ready-to-install package. You can get it by using b43-firmware from AUR.

Then there's the udev firmware loading issue. Putting b43 in rc.conf might get around that. If it doesn't, the other workaround is to blacklist the module and load it manually from /etc/rc.local

Ah, I retract, and apologise.
