[SOLVED] ATI Catalyst - X crashes when playing video.

I recently switched from the open source ati driver to the proprietary one since I was unable to find a solution here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=135561. So I went through the installation and configuration process as outlined here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI_Catalyst. I believe I did this correctly, but of course there's always the chance that I messed something up.

In any case, the xfce4 desktop seems to run fine, I can use the Catalyst control center without problems, and even online flash videos seem to play without any problem. However, when I try to play a video using VLC or mplayer, my xwindows crashes. This also happens when attempting to view a webcam with either of these, but again that implies playing video with them. No such crash occurs when using them to play audio.

Both of these players work fine when I use the open source xf86-video-ati driver. I have even tried switching back to this driver and when I do the players again work. Anyone know why I might be running into this problem using the catalyst driver and what I might be able to do to fix it? The output from the x crash given in the /var/log/xorg.0.log file is given below. If there's anything else I can provide that will help please let me know. Thank you for your time!
