problem with grub

Hi, I know there are many topics about this in this forum but I can't make it work.

the fdisk -l output is

Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders, 976773168 sectores en total
Units = sectores of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Identificador del disco: 0xcecc8217

Disposit.   Inicio  Comienzo      Fin                 Bloques       Id     Sistema

/dev/sda5           434296832   976773119    271238144   8e   Linux LVM

in the /boot/grub/menu.lst

# (2) Windows
title Windows
rootnoverify  (hd0,0)
chainloader +1

I tried with (hd0,0), (hd0,1),(hd0,2),(hd0,3) and is always the error 13 or 15.
makeactive does not make any difference.

Is there another way to boot windows without grub?

I really don't know what I'm doing wrong. Please help

Regards

Re: problem with grub

Judging the output of fdisk hd0,1 or hd0,2 should work.  As for other ways to boot windows, have you tried burg?  Its a  graphical boot loader in the aur.  Make sure you really read the wiki when installing it.  There is even a section that describes how to have burg auto-generate the correct entries for windows (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bu … _detection) see the part about os-prober (install os-prober before you run the  update-burg command).

here is a screenshot of one of many themes (just in case you were wondering):

Re: problem with grub

thanks for the info, I installed burg but the problem is still there and now i can't see the error because when I select Windows burg do nothing. Is there another way too see the ntfs partition information? I really need it.

Re: problem with grub

Which version of Windows are you using? I have the `makeactive' flag enabled on my menu.lst, for windows 7 (which is barely ever used >:D)

Re: problem with grub

I have windows 7 and I understand that the 'makeactive' flag is use when you have another hard drive. please correct me if i'm wrong. Anyway, the problem still persist with that flag.

Re: problem with grub

Might this website be any help?

http://www.linuxselfhelp.com/gnu/grub/h … rub_4.html

Also I quote

07 Windows NT NTFS

Filesystem introduced in Windows NT 3.1. It is rumoured that the Windows NT boot partition must be primary, and within the first 2 GB of the disk.
