Dotfile Exchange.

Hey,

I know that everyone has their own favourite configuration in all their dotfiles and configuration files, .bashrc, .zshrc, .shellrc, .Xdefaults, .vimrc .xbindkeysrc .xmodmaprc, .emacsrc .xinitrc etc.

In the past i've discovered all sorts of cool things in different peoples dotfiles on the internet, aliases for bash/zsh, settings for vim, tweaks for fluxbox, plenty of things, so I figured I'd start this thread, so you can upload and share your dotfiles and config files with others. commented configs are nice, but it's ok if they arent, mine are only loosely commented, and I've also forgotten what parts do in some

mine are here:

386?

From iphitus' kernel config:

CONFIG_M386=y
# CONFIG_M486 is not set
# CONFIG_M586 is not set
# CONFIG_M586TSC is not set
# CONFIG_M586MMX is not set
# CONFIG_M686 is not set
# CONFIG_MPENTIUMII is not

Re: Dotfile Exchange.

You know, that might be a cool project to start a site that had a good way to share those sort of things (dotfiles.com isn't really organized enough to be useful IMHO).  Perhaps have a voting/commenting system tied to the configurations; maybe a way to analyize people's files to see what's most common, etc.

I might try to think on that one for awhile to see if I could come up with something workable.  Does anyone else think it's a good idea?

Re: Dotfile Exchange.

Not sure how such a site could be organized that would make it easy to use. Maybe a wiki style interface?

Fark! I musta accidentaly changed that, thanks for pointing it out!

Either way, I wasnt suggesting a site to upload them, i was just hoping people would post in this thread, although a site would be cool, or even a section on the wiki.

Either way, feel free to post htem here! that was the initial point of the thread.

Re: Dotfile Exchange.

The problem with posting them here is that, for instance, my last fvwm config was 6 files of 1,465 lines and my current is one file of 399 lines. That makes for a lot of scrolling. wink

Another problem is that my configs invariably contain something stone cold stupid that I'll notice later and be embarrassed that I posted. smile

But I agree that sharing dotfiles would be fantastic and that dotfiles.com is basically unusable. It would be nice to come up with a solution - something wiki-ish probably is about right.

do what i did and link to it then.

in the past i've done similar stupid things. Once i wrote a screenshot script that automatically displayed info, took screenshot, and uploaded the screenshot via ftp. Before uploading the script I removed my password from a copy. Then I uploaded my original one, complete with password!

Doh! Passwords are all changed now, damn inconvenience though.

Nope, just snacks. smile I cited that number as a 'pain to scroll through' number, which is misleading for the actual configuration. I comment a lot and, excluding comments, the actual config is only 753 lines.

Ouch! Good thing you caught it, at least.

As far as linking, I could try that.

Re: Dotfile Exchange.

If ya'll want to post colorschemes, add a screenshot with vim running the "colortest" script (it displays every possible color)
