[Solved] Alsa micrphone post 3.2.1 update

I use only alsa to manage the audio settings. The microphone (and other settings) has started to suddenly work incorrectly (I am assuming after the 3.2.1 update).
1. The microphone has very low volume with a lot of noise.
2. I can't mute any of my playback channels. I don't have the option to mute them. (hitting m in alsamixer doesn't do anything)

I use a Thinkpad x200.

I tried some of the stuff suggested in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=133987. But it wasn't useful. I am not sure how to go about troubleshooting this.

Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same with TP R400

put this into your  /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf:
options snd-hda-intel model=ideapad

Thank you good sir. I can mute my audio out now.
I had been using "options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo-x200 enable_msi=1" thus far.
