I'm considering purchasing the Acer Aspire AS5750-2434G64Mnkk laptop. The only spec I can find for the wireless card is that it is "Acer Wireless 802.11b/g/Draft-N". If anyone knows this card I'd really like to know if there is a driver for it, as I'm not interested in using ndiswrapper.
Many thanks.

My Acer Aspire 5750 has a broadcom BCM43227 card (called a "Acer Nplify 802.11b/g/n" on the case). This card requires the broadcom-wl driver, which is only available in AUR. Furthermore, the only method Acer offers for updating the BIOS on this laptop is to run a Windows exe file.
I suggest you consider buying a different laptop.

Thanks for the info /dev/zero. Other than the driver coming from AUR have you had any issues with it? Other than the bios upgrade (I've never upgraded the bios on any laptop i've owned) are there any other problems you've had with the laptop. I am trying to fit quite a few specs into a tight budget and this laptop seems a reasonable fit. I have always been loyal to Dell but got screwed around by them last week so I cancelled an order for an Inspiron 15R, and this one is next on the list.

Other than needing to be careful about kernel updates so I don't break my wireless, I also find the synaptics touchpad is a real pain. It always click in places I don't want it to, and I can't get it to turn off with syndaemon. I also had to put a lot of effort into configuring laptop-mode-tools and various other tweaks otherwise it ran really hot and would only last for about 3 hours on battery.
I mean, I now have everything pretty well set up, and the laptop's quite usable. Still, these three things do irk me: the wireless drivers, the Windows-only BIOS update, and the erratic mouse behaviour. I would never buy this laptop if I could go back.

Thanks for the info, its good to know. I think I'll keep looking a while longer to see if something else comes up.
