Media Players + Creative Zen synchronization problems

Hi.

For a while now I've been using Arch Linux, and I must say, I like it and it's now my main OS. But I have a problem with the synchronization of my MP3 Player.

So I've got a Creative Zen (like this one, if it's important) and I was never able to sync my music with it using Arch Linux. I've tried using several media players with MTP protocol support, but none worked.
I use Arch Linux 64 Bits, updated and I tried syncing with the following players:

  • Banshee (2.2.1-1) / Clementine (1.0.1-1) > Device isn't even recognized;

  • Amarok (2.5.0-2) > Device Recognized, but can't sync;

  • Rhythmbox (2.95-1) > Device Recognized, starts to sync but crashes after 2-3 seconds (Segmentation fault).

All software, as well as libmtp (1.1.1-1), were installed from the official Arch Repositories. I've also tried it libmtp-git int the AUR, but no luck...

I would guess it's a libmtp issue, since I have no problem using my Creative in other OS (windows 7 + WMP | Ubuntu 11.10 + Rhythmbox).

I only was able to put some music in my MP3 player using mtpfs, and assigning a partition to it. But I was hoping that syncing the device with my library and playlists was possible (like ipod + itunes), preferably using rhythmbox or banshee.

If there are any logs or debug outputs that can help with the solution to this problem, please, just say so. I will post them as soon as possible.

By the way, english is not my native language. Sorry for any error hmm

Thanks in advance,
Agkel0s

I don't know if this will do everything you need, but I use Gnomad to manage my Creative player.

Re: Media Players + Creative Zen synchronization problems

A long long time ago there was a bug in clementine (which I used then with a Creative X-Fi very similar to yours) which forced me to recompile it passing different options. I can't find the bug anymore nor do I have it bookmarked but in any case maybe just run clementine from a terminal to see the output once you plug in the mp3 player.

I'm a bit of a newbie, so can you please tell me how to see clementine's debug... I runned it from a terminal but doesn't show any output. Not even from playing some files or internet radios...

Thanks,

Re: Media Players + Creative Zen synchronization problems

By the way, something strange happened. I was seeing the options in thunar-volman (the Automatic management of removeable devices in Thunar, the filemanager I use) and I saw some options for automatically execute a command or an application when a camera or portable media player is connected/hot-plugged.
The weird thing is that my creative zen is recognized as a digital camera and not a mp3 player... May that be the cause of my problem? Is that situation normal?

Thanks in advance,
Agkel0s

Re: Media Players + Creative Zen synchronization problems

Hi,

Recently I needed to format my laptop, and because of that I had to re-install Arch Linux. And, without knowing why, I now have this problem corrected. Now my Creative Zen is recognized flawlessly in both Banshee and Rhythmbox (haven't tried others yet) and sync is done with no bugs and errors...

I don't know if during my re-install of Arch any of the packages were updated (in libmtp, banshee, rhythmbox or any other package that solved this problem), or this was a bad configuration all along.

And since I don't know what the problem was, I don't know if i should mark this thread/problem as solved.
Thanks for all your help,

Agkel0s.
