[solved] root partition is full, what are my options?

Here's my setup:
hda1 40GB Windows
hda2 boot
hda3 200GB data
hda4 10GB Arch linux
hda5 10GB empty (will hold distributions I want to try)
hda6 10GB empty
hda7 5GB swap

problem: hda4 just got 100% full.

I've been installing/removing a lot of packages just to try stuff (DEs and bigger apps), but I'm not sure there's that much stuff I could erase and I don't even kno if there's useless stuff left behind I can remove
a long term solution would be to give up hda5 and resize hda4.
Which utility can I use for that? I don't expect Arch to be able to resize the active root partition? Can I use some partitionner for Windows or should I create a live disk of some other distribution and use a linux disk partitionner?

See where exactly did the free space go, clean your package cache if possible.

There are 40GB on hda1 waiting to be cleaned. You could mount /tmp there.
