Hello all,
After using Ubuntu (and later moving to Kubuntu) since version 5.10, I found myself looking for a replacement distribution on Feb 7th.
I changed my mind on Kubuntu and started looking for a replacement for it once I realized that some of the key programs that I relied on and needed them to be most up to date were a few versions behind under Ubuntu, most important of those being Mono, KDE, and Eclipse.
I started looking around for distributions that had strong support (community or otherwise) and maintained latest packages. That's when I came across Arch.
I liked the wiki, the community, and the rolling release model that I found with Arch. So after giving the installation couple tries in Virtual box, I took a leap of faith. After 90 minutes of slapping in the Arch installation CD, I had Arch fully installed and KDE fully configured.
I hope to fully participate in the community and contribute what ever I.
Thanks
Karim

Hey everyone,
I've been using Linux since June 2011, started out with Ubuntu, then Kubuntu, then Linux Mint, then Xubuntu, then Debian, then Crunchbang, then Linux Mint, then Linux Mint KDE, and now Arch I'm a distro-hopper by heart, and I've decided to branch out of the Debian and Ubuntu based distros, and jump right into Arch. It hasn't let me down yet, it seems like a pretty fast and stable enough distro, I'm loving it
Cheers

Hey,
Not sure if anyone reads these or not, but here we go...
I'm currently living in Manchester, UK. I've been using Linux for the last 12 months or so, mainly Ubuntu/Kubuntu. I'm currently employed as Tech Support Engineer for a web hosting company, mainly supporting CentOS but also a touch of Ubuntu and Debian. I moved from supporting Windows desktops and it's pretty much the best career choice I've made to date. So yeah, I've been looking for a lightweight distro that's a bit more 'linux-y' than Ubuntu and really customizable and everything seems to point to Arch!

I don't read every one, but I come in for a skim every now and again to see what kinds of new people are coming in
As ewaller said, welcome to you and the rest of the newcomers.

I was very pleased to see how quickly I was able to install the base system, then get X and xfce4 running.
I got it all running inside Virtualbox so far. I will devote some real disk space soon.
I like what I am seeing in Arch so far!
Having a lot of fun.
Steve.

Hope this is the right subforum for this post... Sorry if it is not.

Hey
I've just registered today but I've been using arch for quite some time now, a year or so. I really like the sense of control you get when using arch, and the rolling release system, which is what brought me here in the first place. I think the package maintainers and community are doing great work, so thanks. Hope I'll get the chance to give something back.

Hi i've been dancing around distrowatch for a few years. I feel i have the aptitude to piece together an ARCH system. I've mostly used debian based stuff. I love to setup my OS simple with some manual editing, so here i am. I tend to break my system quite often in various ways so please be patient with me. ArchWiki is the best documentation i've read.....

Hello, all.
I've been using Arch for a few years. Finaly got around to registering here.
This is a great community, centered around a great distro. It still surprises me how much so. Often when looking for the answer to a general Linux question I find my searches leading me to the Arch wiki anyway and I've been spoiled by Arch's setup. No mater what other distros I've tried out since Arch, none have matched its elegant implimentation of K.I.S.S. and don't get me started on rolling releases. ...that's now a requirement for me.
Anyway, see you around.
Cheers.

hello, im lukas from germany
switched to arch linux cause i love it when everthing in my system is up to date and pacman does now everything.
I also find it good to be able to control everthing in configs, which was no longer possible in kubuntu (it really went into the wrong direction last time, for windows nooby's its a great system -.-, but its good cause they can start there and learn how easy and good looking linux can be )
So i wanted more control and more self configuring to my system. But gentoo still is a bit too hard for me, and i think there is lots of needless work which arch automatically does. (in arch youve to change the lines in configs. In gentoo you must write the config file by yourself, looking up gentoo-pedia for help)
I read the "Arch Boot Process" article in arch wiki and configured some things in my system, deleting some needless hooks, daemons.
But most I learned lots of linux and its way to run cause this article names every process from bootmanger to a usable system.
'Looked up most of the config files and made lots of thoughts what could this file be fore and what does this line do.
At the moment i'm running a KDE system with compiz-fusion and an own emerald-theme.
My linux kernel is a linux-ck-kernel (with Brain Fuck Scheduler , runs very smoothy and fast)
I also use winehq for playing most of my games.
Ive got two PCs. (Parents live apart from each other)
One PC:
core 2 duo e6600
3gb ddr2
GTS250
On this PC there only runs Arch with a well configured winehq, i take it to LAN-Parties, too. All games work smoothy and fine
Second:
Phenom II 920
4gb ddr2
HD5850
On this PC there runs Arch, but also a Windows 7 only for games, cause i want to play some new games with all details and dx11-effects.

Hello everyone.
After having used Debian for about ten years, it was time to try something new.
The switch to arch linux has only been enjoyable. Can not see that I will switch back in the near future.
You don't always need to agree with me. Feel free to be wrong if you want to!

Hi everyone!
I have been thinking about trying Arch for a while now, and finally got around to it - and... its great! I used to run Ubuntu, and Arch is so small and fast compared to it, its amazing! I've found Arch is probably not for people new to Linux/GNU, but that's okay with me, because I love to tinker!
So far I have found the both the Wiki and the Community to be amazing! I think Arch's Wiki actually blows Ubuntu's out of the water - Arch definitely has the best Wiki I've seen. Hopefully soon I'll become more confident in Arch Linux and Linux/GNU in general and be able to give back to the community.
Looking forward to a great time with Arch!

Hi there!
Wow, that security question wasn't playing around, was it? Heh...my eyes aren't great, and I was trying to read it out of a terminal window, and paste it into the appropriate field. Took me a few tries.
Anyways, I've been using Ubuntu for a while, but didn't feel I was doing anything more than changing my environment from Windows to Linux...it's a great distro, but I didn't feel I was getting any deeper knowledge...and I want that knowledge! I originally tried Arch about 3 months ago, but couldn't get it installed, because I wasn't getting past the wireless part, right at the very beginning. Frustrated, I put it aside for a while. Then about a week ago, I heard about ArchBang, and gave that a try - I was hooked on the simpler install right off the bat! And yet...I still wanted to come here, just because I couldn't before. So I soaked up a little of the Arch experience, figured some things out, and here I am. Finally. :-)

Hi everyone,
I am a former Fedora user and felt confident enough to switch to a D.I.Y distribution. So i finally made the switch to Arch Linux.
I loved the Arch Installation, where we could choose all the good stuff.
Hoping for an awesome Arch experience.

Hello,
I've been using arch for a while, finally decided to join the community.
I've distro-hopped a lot for about 5 years, and have almost always lately gone back to arch for every computer i own.

I just want to say that I have been using Arch Linux for about a month now, and I must say that it is amazing. I've been using Linux for 8 years now (starting with Fedora Core 2 in 2004) and I have to say that Arch has been the best distribution I've used.
I've used Debian, Fedora, Mint, Ubuntu, CentOS, and SUSE. None have really worked for me, and I'm glad to see how Arch works beautifully. It took me much less time than I thought it would to set up (it took me about 1 hour outside of the installation itself).
I also want to comment that my start up time is 10 seconds (for the tty login), ~7 seconds extra to get to XFCE. It's wonderful.

Very much a newbie (took me an hour to create a user account) and incredibly intrigued with all things Arch; Arch Bang, Arch Linux, Arch ARM, and so on. One Archer said to me, once you get the hang of Arch, all else kinda sucks. He is correct! This Month has been a lot of making serious decisions for me in life. Sticking with Arch is one of them. I have limited my projects in life down quite a bit. At almost 50, even the "Arch Way" made a 'light' glow over my head. There is a lot I want to say, but its not necessary here. I am very grateful to everybody involved with Arch, and I hope to be of reciprocal use one day.

I am very new to this stuff so please bare with me. It took me a good hour alone to figure out how to get a user account here and on the Wiki! I am totally intrigued with all things Arch; Arch Linux, Arch Bang, Arch ARM, and more! I hope to be a contributor one day when I grow up. Thanks for all your support!

Just a little Hello World
I'm using Arch now for a few monthes and in my opinion it's just a great distro. Before that I've been using Ubuntu, but then I had to decide whether to upgrade to 11.10 or to try something new and now I'm here

Hello people
I've been using Arch for a couple of months, im glad to announce everyone that my distro hopping has finally come to an end. True, a lot of ups & downs in the way, but there hasnt been a single problem that could not be solved by reading a little, the documentation is by far the best i've ever seen. After trimming all the fat and customizing my box to my need and taste never been this comfortable.
Now starts the new journey: the desktop hopping (am I wrong? )
Currently running openbox and loving it
