[Solved] Error upon selecting "base" package during install process

Hey guys,

I got stuck in the install process. the following issue never occured to be before.
Upon selecting the base package during install and pressing "OK", i recieve the following error:

ERROR: check_is_in needs a non-empty needle as $1 and a haystack as $2!(gote: check_is_in '' 'base')

and that throws me out of the installation process.
A google search on the error message only returned sites where the responsible script is postet.

I am installing arch linux on a lenovo x220, on a seperate ext4 partition.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Is that a netinstall or cd?

netinstall. The network config seemed fine, too as i was able to ping google.
I picked the best rated mirror in my country (germany), which i used on multiple arch installs before w/o problems
Thanks for your time!

Re: [Solved] Error upon selecting "base" package during install process

I'm also experiencing this problem. I'm installing the 2011.08.19 version of Arch, and I'm running into the same problems as OP.

I have an HP g70t, and I'm trying to install the netinstall, x86-64 version. I have my network configured properly and everything beforehand seems to work perfectly. Only when I have to select base does it throw me out. Any suggestions?

I'm also having the same problem, trying to install Arch on my netbook with a pendrive (using latest netinstall x86 ISO, copied to the pendrive with dd).

I would edit the installation script before running it, if that's neccesary, but I'm not sure how or where the script is, or even if I could run into further problems hmm.

Re: [Solved] Error upon selecting "base" package during install process

@everyone
I just finished (fully tested) SAI :simple archlinux installer.
If you dont mind, feel free to try it out while the problem is waiting to be solved.

1. get your internet working.
2. wget https://github.com/taylorchu/sai/zipball/master
3. unzip it
4. mv taylorchu-sai-... /sai
5. pacman -S vim // it needs vim
6. bash /sai/sai

Taylorchu: haven't tried your solution yet, as I was just writing this:

The problem is with mirrors.kernel.org (now that I remember, I've read about kernel.org having trouble with their servers, is this still true?). Just choosing another mirror solves the problem.

Would be nice if the installer could detect problems with the mirrors before trying to choose the packages... anyway, thanks, I will now go on installing Arch big_smile

It would be a good idea for anyone having this problem to mention the mirror being selected.

I just read through this post and it did fix my issue.  However, I do not remember what mirror I selected.  sad

It was a few selections below kernel.org......

Re: [Solved] Error upon selecting "base" package during install process

I just came across this error too.  In my case I hadn't logged in through the local portal which is required before the Internet can be accessed.  It would be nice if there was an error message rather than the setup program just quitting, because you then have to go back and reformat your partitions before it will let you try again which is a pain.  I noticed that when it was broken it only let me choose 'base' as the package list, whereas once I had Internet access it also allowed me to select 'base-devel'.  So I guess that could be a clue, but still, an error message with a 'retry' button would be so much nicer!
