I have several problems with my sound on my main computer and HTPC running Arch 64.
1) When using VLC for video the sound is always out of sync, I can adjust it and it's fine but it is still a pain and I would like to fix it if possible. XBMC does not have this problem, so I'm not sure if it's just VLC or what.
2) On my main desktop when the computer comes back from suspend I have to go to pulse audio volume controller -> configuration and then turn the HDMI to Off and then back on to get the sound to work. It is coming from an ATI 5770.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Any ideas?

1. I haven't had great success with VLC either. I use mplayer for the majority of my video playback needs.
2. I know that I periodically need to send down an "# iecset audio on" for my onboard optical audio output. I'm not exactly sure what causes it, but for some reason the PC seems to turn the whole module off. Maybe someone else will be able to shed more light on this?
