[SOLVED]libpcre.so.0 missing - reboot hangs after recent update

Hi,

I did an update today, the update for filesystem said that libpcre.so.0 is missing. Where can I find it? Do I need it? Thanks for a reply before I need to restart - and possibly lose my system...

Current stuff installed
grep 2.10-3
filesystem 2012.2-2
pcre 8.30-1

The trouble seemed to happen when adding a group that aleready exists...

Thor

Edit - trusting the post at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p1060743 and more to the point, post 11 (by falconindy) - I'll reboot, hoping to be back...

Re: [SOLVED]libpcre.so.0 missing - reboot hangs after recent update

Marking this as solved.

I had to tinker though. Maybe this could be a message in a bottle to others:

The system wanted to start HAL up, not possible, as HAL was not loaded anymore. Udev got upgraded, HAL was out of the picture since then.
Resolve : boot with a live CD (I used Knoppix) - mount sda3 - enter /etc and edit rc.conf - put an exclamation mark in front of HAL in the DAEMONS section all the way down...(or, just remove it)
Restart and enjoy the valium...

Not the case. HAL still works fine with the latest udev. The issue must have been elsewhere.

@karol: I'd say a lot of people had something installed that used hal. That something moved on, but people kept hal, not knowing they don't need it anymore.

It's the same with any other daemon: if you don't enable it in rc.conf, it simply won't work, so you remember to do it, but after uninstalling some package you may forget to remove the daemon unless it's nagging you with errors.

@ karol - well, it would seem ... for nothing, as Gusar said/posted, the things that needed HAL moved on. I was (it seemed) too sloppy to have kept it around...

@ Gusar - I'm testing everything on the system, and all bits work, I can automount, have networking, java works, the whole package. Of course, keeping your post in mind...I expect some skeleton to fall out of the closet. Maybe an overhaul is called for after all. Even if my install is only a couple of years old...
