System reports 0 users [SOLVED]

I am not sure if this is the correct forum for my question, but here goes.  I just noticed that gkrellm is reporting 0 users on my system.  I know that I have root + 2 users.  I thought at first that it might be a gkrellm issue, but "who -q" gives  "# users=0" and "uptime" reports "20:40:10 up 3 days,  8:30,  0 users,  load average: 0.02, 0.07, 0.06".

Any suggestions as to what is going on please?
