How to set PCM on my server

Hi all!

I use a laptop as a server and have sound connected to my stereo.
I run mpd on it 24/7 and I can hear my music, but the volume is too soft (used to be harder with other distro).
When I run alsamixer I only see three "channels": "Master", "S/PDIF" and "S/PDIF Default PCM".
I can set the master volume, but cannot adjust the other settings. There is no PCM channel.
My user is in the audio group.

Suggestions on how to get my PCM channel back?
