flight gear crashes on startup since 2.6 [SOLVED]

there are two problems I started having immediately after updating flight gear to 2.6.

when I type fgfs, it gives me an error:

ERROR: The path '/usr/lib/FlightGear' does not exist in the file system.
Base package check failed:
  Version [none] found at: /usr/lib/FlightGear
  Version 2.6.0 is required.
Please upgrade/downgrade base package and set the path to your fgdata
with --fg-root=path_to_your_fgdata

I can temporarily solve this by running fgfs with

fgfs --fg-root=/usr/share/flightgear/data

so after running that and getting past the initial error, I get a segmentation fault.:

Traffic Manager Warning: discarding outdated cachefile /home/andrew/.fgfs/ai/K/S/F/KSFO-cache.txt for Airport KSFO

on the flight gear loading screen, the toolbar at the top appears, and after the message at the bottom says loading scenery, it closes and this is what I see in the terminal. I have a geforce 8600gts with nouveau drivers.

Re: flight gear crashes on startup since 2.6 [SOLVED]

looks like libpng issues in the second part. Do you have anything from AUR you did not rebuild when the libpng updates hit the repos? such as cairo* packages? Just a shot in the dark on that one?

I have not upgraded my PKGBUILD yet to 2.6 yet so I have not run into this. I will try updating mine later tonight and see if I run into a simlar problem.

whereis fgfs
should show if you accidentally have more than one version on the system. I know that happened once when I was still on Debian.

info about the first error you had
https://code.google.com/p/flightgear-bu … ail?id=381

I use the nvidia blob on my system. Hope this might help some, I will post later tonight after updating my install to see if I run into the same issue.

EDIT:
Well I updated and did not run into the same issues that you did. Everything seems to be working for me, minus my own personal patches(which I expected). It loaded and ran everything as expected and I did not even run into the first error you had to work around. Maybe try a reinstall or remove FlightGear then install again

Sorry I could not be of more help. Hopefully was just some package in your AUR stuff that gave you the issue and you're already flying big_smile

Re: flight gear crashes on startup since 2.6 [SOLVED]

I did a pacman -Rcs flightgear, pacman -S libpng flightgear.
I also deleted the .fgfs file in my home folder. After reinstalling I still get the error that it is looking in /usr/lib/FlightGear. So I made a symlink of /usr/lib/FlightGear -> /usr/share/flightgear/data. I would like to know if it really is supposed to install the data in /usr/lib/FlightGear. What is in your directory there?

Re: flight gear crashes on startup since 2.6 [SOLVED]

Allright. I got rid of nouveau and installed nvidia and now it works! I still have those libpng warnings, should I be concerned?

Re: flight gear crashes on startup since 2.6 [SOLVED]

Great news you got it working, wonder why nouveau causes so much issue with many things. Anyways I would try and figure out which of your packages is causing the warning and rebuild/reinstall it. See if this helps you figure out which package is causing the libpng issues. https://www.archlinux.org/news/libpngli … m-testing/

My directory gets filled properly no link needed for me. But as far as I understand it, yes it should be putting the data there. Maybe try looking up the maintainer and ask if they know why the link is needed and if on their machine it is.

Glad to see you're ready to fly though smile

I get home on Thursday Kaustic, will start shortly after that. I would rather wait so I can add somethings I do not have access to while traveling big_smile

Re: flight gear crashes on startup since 2.6 [SOLVED]

I know, but also know it will actually be of use to at least a few people. I just posted a thread relating to it in the Wiki section of the forums for suggestions on what other users will want in the wiki so I can start with a more complete or "well-rounded" entry. Trying to make sure I touch on everything users on Arch would actually like to see in the wiki. smile
