After doing a full system upgrade (including aur), many programs are complaining of missing shared objects.
How do I update all the so's, or all the programs looking to old ones?

Have you tried reinstalling the programs that are complaining? That would be where I would try first, though never have run into that issue.

Yeah that was my first thought as well. I tried reinstalling three or four but the problem persisted and it seems like it's almost every substantial program.

Specific error messages please - general complaints like this are impossible to debug.

Sorry. When I created this post I was in a bit of a rush and didn't have time to sort this problem out myself but, today I finally took the time.
On a fresh install of ArchBang just fully updated, when I'd run a program, pretty much any gui program, I'd get an error saying a shared object was missing. For example lilbpng14.so.14, libxul.so, etc... After trying many different programs (including firefox, geany, terminator, midori, vlc) cairo seemed to be the problem, so I uninstalled the cairo-ubuntu that was installed and replaced it with just plain old cairo. This fixed the problem!
It was weird because it was always a different library but after trying 15 or so programs, libpng came up the most and this lead me to cairo.
Thanks a lot for the help

If it was libpng related, on the front page of archlinux.org you would have seen a notice stating any cairo related packages needed to be updated/reinstalled. You could have just reinstalled cairo-ubuntu and should have done the same thing. I use the ubuntu version and the only time I saw an error relating to libpng was when they started the updates to that I think a week or two ago.

"As usual, remember to fully update your system and check your unofficial packages (especially the cairo-* packages from AUR) for required rebuilds."
Don't forget to mark solved if it is
