[Solved] Problem starting XFCE4

Hi,

I am not able to run xfce4 on a new install of arch linux. When I run startxfce4 at the command line it begins to start, one panel shows and the wallpaper sort of flashes up in various areas before once again going blank, the panel also disappears and I am left with just the mouse pointer and a black background. I am able to run startx with the default twm window manager with no problems. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: [Solved] Problem starting XFCE4

I seem to have solved the problem now, for anyone else you wants to know you have to issue the following commands:

sudo rm /etc/profile.d/locale.sh

Then

sudo pacman -Syu

It seems that the locale.sh file may have been stopping pacman from installing/updating packages correctly.

Might be worthwhile pointing out here that the Beginners Guide advises:

You are now ready to upgrade your entire system. Before you do, read through the news

Your particular issue was mentioned in the news here:

In any event, congratulations on solving your issue and posting what resolved it for you. If you add [SOLVED] to your thread title (by editing your first post), it can help others who are searching for solutions to similar problems.
