[SOLVED] How to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst from Live CD

After a fresh install of Arch I did a system upgrade.
Afterwards when I tried to boot, I got an error saying that the root partition could not be found.
I did some searching and found I had to debug with a CD.
So I am following this guide http://fanweiphysicist.blogspot.com/201 … linux.html
But it is still not working and I have a suspicion why.
When I boot, grubpoints to hd(0,1) by default when it should be pointing to hd(0,0)
I would like to change it to hd(0,0) permanently.
This way when I reinstall linux and udev, it may work.

Anyways after I ran . /bin/bash , I try to locate /boot/grub/menu.lst
But in /boot there is no grub, yet there is another boot/ directory.
When I got into /boot/boot, it is empty.
I tried grub-update, but it doesn't work.
Help!

Are you sure you got all your mount points correct... correct partition to correct directory? Your partitioning scheme may be different from the one used in the guide (for example, my /boot partition is on /dev/sda1). Use fdisk -l to check.

@ jabrick

I tried grub-update

Why do you want to do this?
