I don't know if this counts as a bug, and if so whether I should report it against cups or gimp. Maybe someone could advise me, but I will report it here as a heads-up for anyone searching the forum. The cups filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstopxl has been renamed gstopxl (http://git.ghostscript.com/?p=ghostpdl. … adefb3b9e8), but gimp does not know it yet. I very seldom print 'photos from gimp, but came across the problem just now and fixed it with a temporary symlink.

Its in the driver ppds. I had this problem with a printer using "HP Color LaserJet Series PCL 6 CUPS", for which the change is already in the commit you posted (in pxlcolor.ppd).
You can either change it by hand ("grep pstopxl /etc/cups/ppd/*") or reinstall the driver from the cups menu (if you are using a driver supplied with ghostscript).
